This 87 page book on budgie care is pretty good. It contains a decent amount of information on all aspects of budgie care. And it is written in an easy to read style, with references to the authors own experiences with her birds that help to get her point across. There are numerous color pictures which are pleasing to look at. Along side them, there are black and white educational diagrams that are very informative. Since the author is a vet you expect this book to be thorough and informative. Dr. Gallerstein doesn’t let you down on that score. In my opinion, this book is one that few budgie owners should be without. In the interests of responsible bird ownership he kicks the book with a chapter on asking whether a bird is right for you. The Parakeet Handbook is a good work budgie care. The style of writing is very easy to read, which helps you to get through all of the information. The full color photos add some viewing pleasure to reading it, and the diagrams are useful learning tools. When you know that Annette Wolter also has author credits for Parakeets: A Complete Pet Owner's Manual, then you expect this book to live up to a certain standard. From the rather long name you’ll notice that this book is about parrots in general, rather than just about budgies. This is useful if you haven’t bought your bird yet, as you can compare different types of parrot side by side. Budgies aren’t for everyone, right? The author describes the differences in behavior and care needed for each type of bird. After reading it you will be able to make a well informed decision as to which bird is right for you.
